• Intro

  To avoid international phone roaming charges
  • There is a chinese version of phone, from Samsung that takes 2 SIM, but not the international version in UK, India etc.
  • One could use IP call packages/services, but you'd still need a local data supplier, whether that WLAN of local building or a SIM enabled Telecom Co.

• Size testing

  • I went off the idea of buying a SIM doubler, after writing this section, but before that I'd already researched sections further below, so that info is retained, possibly for others.
  • Inside phone on moulding it says Micro SIM
  • Inspection of inside of back of case shows a narrower micro SIM will fit a little deeper into the aligned curved long cylindrical depression, thus less chance of case being pushed out a bit.
  • Inspection of phone shows after a flexible ribbon comes out from under SIM, it will need a sharp kink up, to get over top of battery. If battery is slid down to base of cavity, there still only a thumb nail gap for the PCB. Then it will need another fairly sharp kink to get over top of battery. Those sharp kinks wont be good for reliability of PCB I guess.
  • I taped in a mini (not micro) SIM card (0.83mm 0.032" thick) on to battery, aligned directly but some way below socket one side along edge of battery label. Presumably aligned with curves of cover (I have the fold over cover that covers front of screen), it all clicked back together, but I could feel it bulge a bit, and on left of phone it was a bit difficult getting final lugs near the SIM to engage cover to phone, and phone no longer sits flat on table, (with gap between end of phone and table considerably more than one some height, as the sim protrudes in the middle of phone, so slope is amplified by the end, which would be a wobbly annoyance using screen with phone on desk.
  • To simulate the extra thickness that a ribbon and steel clip would bring, I had previously taped 2 SIMs to the battery, then the cover would not even click seal on left near the double SIM height, so damp and dust could ingress. OK, I guess a ribbon and steel clip would be thinner than a second SIM card, but even so ...
  • That was with normal thin (type) translucent adhesive plastic film tape, (eg: German Tessa, British Sellotape or American Scotch tape, or Australian Durex), so no substantial thickness compared to SIM card.
